"To learn to think is to learn to question." This statement is truly related to our lives, as students.
Questions reflect the amount of thought put in by the individual, his level of thinking. Appropriate questions to the appropriate people would garner not only valuable opinions and the right answers, but however, though-provoking statements, which helps in the development of oneself.
It supplements our thinking process with the right ideologies, not just what we assumed is right. Asking questions would directly or indirectly clarify one’s thoughts and result in one being on the right path of thinking.
Inquisitiveness is a part of our nature as humans, or in general, animals. We seek answers to things we do not understand, or are unsure of. For example, dogs are seen sniffing around, to try and find out whatever is in their sightline, to find out who the person in front of them are. Similarly, humans asks questions to acquire knowledge of what which intrigues us, such as how blood clots shortly after getting cuts, how we are actually able to see colours, as well as how natural phenomenons such as greenhouse effect and tornadoes come about.
At times, children are afraid to voice questions, for fear of sounding stupid or looking bad in front of peers, for fear of their seniors, be it parents, teachers or relatives, ignoring their queries. As the Chinese proverb goes, "He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever."
It is this very need for knowledge that fuels mankind’s advancement through the centuries, be it in terms of sophistication or technology. What better way to satiate your hunger for knowledge than questioning?
As how Claude Levi-Strauss puts it, "The wise man doesn't give the right answers, he poses the right questions."
The essay I submitted for my application to vj. Found this while trying to back my stuff up so I could reformat the computer anytime soon =D
